Conceived as a contemporary cultural landmark within Ayla, Aqaba, WUJUD Art Institute is designed as an environment that supports artistic production, education, and public engagement through a carefully orchestrated spatial framework. The project explores the relationship between creative practice and shared experience, organizing a diverse program into a cohesive architectural composition.
The planning strategy is centered around a generous exhibition hall that acts as the institute's primary public space, from which a network of flexible studios extends. Designed as rentable creative modules, these spaces accommodate a range of artistic disciplines while allowing the institute to evolve with changing educational and cultural needs. Supporting functions including a dedicated music studio, workshop spaces, administration, and a café area seamlessly integrated to encourage interaction between artists, students, and visitors.
The interior architecture is defined by clarity, proportion, and material restraint. A neutral palette of textured mineral finishes and exposed surfaces establishes a timeless backdrop that prioritizes artwork and creative activity, while carefully positioned cobalt-blue architectural interventions serve as moments of orientation and spatial identity. Natural light is treated as a fundamental design element, filtering through the building to enhance material textures, articulate circulation, and create gallery-quality environments throughout the institute.
Circulation is conceived as a continuous spatial sequence that transitions between moments of openness and intimacy, blurring the boundaries between exhibition, education, and production. Double-height volumes, visual connections between levels, and adaptable interiors foster an atmosphere of transparency and collaboration, allowing the creative process itself to become part of the visitor experience.
Rather than functioning solely as an educational institution, WUJUD Art Institute is envisioned as a flexible cultural infrastructure and as an architectural framework capable of accommodating exhibitions, workshops, performances, and everyday artistic practice while contributing to the evolving cultural identity of Ayla.
